Dr. Indermeet Gill is known for his good grasp on subjects like debt management and poverty alleviation. The World Bank has assigned him the responsibility of the new VP. His appointment will be effective from June 1.

The World Bank has assigned the responsibility of Vice President of the Common Development, Finance and Institutions (EFI) Global Practice Group to the Indian Dr. Indermeet Gill. He will replace M Ahyan Kosay. His appointment will be effective from June 1, 2021. Dr. Gill, who has a good grasp on subjects such as debt management, sustainable growth and poverty alleviation, has a special connection with Delhi, the capital of the country.
He earned a Bachelor degree in Economics from St. Stephen’s College, Delhi University, in the years 1978–1981. After Bachelors, he completed his MA degree from Delhi School of Economics, Delhi University. He received this degree in 1985. After this he went to University of Chicago to complete his PhD. Later, he studied further from abroad.
The principle of ‘middle income trap’ was explained
Dr. Gill had explained the principle of ‘Middle Income Trap’ very well. He is one of the few people who talked about it in the early stages itself. He had told how this theory shows the slowing down of developing countries after reaching a certain income, which helps in understanding its nuances.
There has been a share of the World Bank in the past as well
Dr. Gill is currently Professor of Practice of Public Policy at Duke University and Senior Research Scholar at the Center for International and Global. He has an old association with the World Bank. Prior to this he has been the Chief Economist for Europe and Central Asia and the staff director of the 2009 World Development Report on Economic Geography.
