Railways have found 9 companies eligible for bidding for handing over the New Delhi railway station in private hands. Soon its tender will be issued by the Railways.
Privatization of New Delhi Railway Station
The central government is going to hand over the command of more than 100 railway stations in the country. Under this process, the process of privatization of New Delhi Railway Station has also been started. For this, the railways have qualified 9 companies to bid. The most important of these is seen in two big companies Adani and GMR. Other companies are also part of this race. It is believed that by the end of this year, the name of the company will be finalized through tender.
The Railway Ministry has set a budget of Rs 6,500 crore for the project for the re-development of New Delhi railway station. This includes equipping the railway station with high-end facilities, developing it into a retail business space, creating commercial space and housing. Keeping these things in mind, the Railways had called for Request for Qualification (RFQ) last February. In which companies participated enthusiastically.
These companies were found worthy
Many companies had bid under the privatization project. Out of which Rail Vikas Nigam Limited has qualified 9 companies including Adani Railway Transport, GMR Group, Arabian Construction Company, Anchorage Infrastructure and Kalpatur Power Transmission. Adani and GMR Group are being considered as strong contenders for taking command of the New Delhi Railway Station.
Pre-bidding took place last year
A pre-bid meeting was held in September 2020 for the privatization process of the railway statement. Large groups like Adani, GMR, JKB Infra, Arabian Construction Company and Anchorage Infrastructure took part in it. The central government will start public private partnership for the redevelopment of railway stations i.e. PPP on the basis of partnership with private companies. Under the government’s agenda, work is going on for the redevelopment of about 125 railway stations in the country.
