A recent survey has revealed that more than 46% of the buyers of the house are unaware about the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY). In this survey conducted on this behalf by Basic Home Loan, it has been found that 17 per cent of the people involved in the survey were aware that under this scheme a maximum subsidy of Rs 2.67 lakh is received. However, people showed lack of clarity about the mandatory condition of owning a woman to take advantage of this scheme. Only 48% of the people involved in the survey were aware that under this scheme, customers with Economically Weak (EWS) and Low Income Group (LIG) are given priority.

Who gets the benefit of this

Actually, the benefit of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) is given only to the poor, but now it has also brought the poor and middle class of the urban areas under its purview. There are many categories on the basis of income and loan amount is disaid on the basis of those categories. Initially, the amount of home loan in PMAY was from 3 to 6 lakh rupees and subsidy was available thereon, but it has been reduced to 18 lakh rupees.

This includes Economically Weaker Section (EWS) and Lower Income Group (LIG) with annual income of 3 lakh to 6 lakh, Middle Income Group 1 (MIG1) with 6 lakh to 12 lakh annual income and middle income group with 12 lakh to 18 lakh annual income. There are 2 (MIG2). Also, to take advantage of the scheme, the age of the applicant should be 21 to 55 years. If the head of the family or the applicant is over 50 years of age, then his principal legal heir will be included in the home loan.

Who gets subsidy?

If the annual income of the application is up to Rs 6 lakh, then a subsidy of 6.5 percent will be given on the loan of Rs 6 lakh. Apart from this, people earning up to Rs 12 lakh will get 4 percent interest subsidy on loans up to Rs 9 lakh. At the same time, those earning up to Rs 18 lakh will get 3 percent interest subsidy on loans up to Rs 12 lakh. The maximum loan limit in this is Rs 48 lakhs.
