Petrol Diesel Price: Any decision regarding bringing petrol, diesel under the purview of Goods and Services Tax (GST) is to be taken by the GST Council.
Know why diesel-petrol is getting expensive?
Union Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Dharmendra Pradhan blamed the rise in the price of crude oil in the global market for the increase in the price of petrol and diesel in the country. Pradhan admitted that the prices of petrol, diesel have increased in recent days. He said that any decision regarding bringing petrol, diesel under the purview of Goods and Services Tax (GST) has to be taken by the GST Council. It is believed that bringing petrol, diesel under the purview of GST may bring down their prices.
Crude oil crosses $ 70 per barrel
He said, the main reason behind the increase in the price of petroleum products is that the price of crude oil has reached $ 70 per barrel in the international market. This increased the prices in the domestic market as well, which has a negative impact on the consumers. India imports 80 percent of its oil requirement.
The Petroleum Minister was replying to a question asked by reporters on the increase in the price of petrol, diesel. Pradhan had reached Gandhinagar on the occasion of the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding between the Gujarat government and IOC regarding the expansion of the Vadodara-based Indian Oil Corporation (IOC).
Asked about his stand on bringing petrol, diesel under the purview of the GST regime to give relief to the public from rising fuel prices, Pradhan said he agrees with the view.
