National Conference Vice President Omar Abdullah said that India and Pakistan should resolve issues through open dialogue. He also welcomed the initiative of peace between the two countries.

Former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir Omar Abdullah.

National Conference Vice President Omar Abdullah welcomed the peace initiative between India and Pakistan. However, he said that both countries should go beyond secret talks and open talks to resolve all issues including Kashmir. Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of a party function in Pulwama district of South Kashmir, Omar said that his party has always said that the betterment of not only Jammu and Kashmir but the entire South Asia lies in the friendship of the two countries.

Omar Abdullah said that it is good that both countries are talking about friendship rather than threatening each other, but, much more remains to be done. Referring to reports of secret talks between India and Pakistan, the vice president of the National Conference said that there should be open dialogue between the two countries to resolve all issues.

Open dialogue between India and Pakistan

He said, “We have heard that secret talks were held, we want the day to come soon when they will sit together and have open talks on all the issues and there are many issues like Jammu and Kashmir or something else.” He said that he wants Pakistan to resolve all issues through dialogue.

When asked about the Enforcement Directorate (ED) questioning of PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti, Omar said that this is the price that a person pays for opposing the policies of the Center.

He said, “Mufti from Jammu Kashmir to Tamil Nadu is not the first such leader nor will it be the last leader. Unfortunately in the last few years we have had the experience that the expense of opposing the policies of the Center has to be paid as summoned by these agencies. But, wherever this action takes place, they will be fought with full force.
