Police said that Superintendent of Police (SP) Smith Parmar of Mayurbhanj district (Mayurbhanj), a tribal dominated area, has suspended Sharat police station in-charge Reena Baxla on Sunday. Buxla is accused of forcing a pregnant woman to walk 3 km in the sunlight during a helmet check.

Giving information about the case, the police said that a man named Bikram Baruli was going to the hospital with his eight-month pregnant wife on Sunday to get her checked up in the hospital. During this time his wife was not wearing a helmet. On seeing this, the female police officer Reena Baxla who was present there stopped them both and fined them for not wearing helmets.

Person appeals to pay the fine online

The woman officer asked Bikram to make the payment offline for violating traffic rules under the MV Act, while Baruli said that he wants to pay the fine online. But the woman officer did not listen to him and asked him to walk to Sharat police station with a motorcycle. Meanwhile, his wife stood on the road for a long time under severe sunlight in this condition.

When the woman’s husband did not return for a long time, the woman herself walked towards the police station when there was no option. During this time, the pregnant woman had to walk for about three kilometers. Pregnant woman had to face a lot of difficulties due to walking 3 kilometers in such heat. After this, the couple filed a complaint against the woman officer with the sub-divisional police officer.

The person said in his complaint, “The officer of Sharat police station is a woman herself, but she did not show any sympathy for my wife. I requested him to pay the fine online, but he did not listen to me. I also prayed to take my wife with me to the police station, but my wife was taken to the police station by standing alone on the middle road. ” Mayurbhanj SP said that the woman officer has been suspended for gross misconduct and for not performing her duty and a departmental inquiry will also be initiated against her.
