Nirav Modi extradition: Nirav Modi escaped from India on 1 January 2018.

On 25 February, Westminster Court approved his extradition to India.

Eventually, the way to bring Nirav Modi to India was cleared. Home Secretary of England Priti Patel has approved the extradition of Modi, accused of 14000 crores fraud. Nirav Modi has done so much fraud with Punjab National Bank, the second largest public sector bank in the country. On 25 February, Westminster Court approved his extradition to India. As part of the process, it was sent to the UK Home Secretary, who has stamped the extradition.

Nirav Modi is currently lodged in Wandsworth Jail. If he wants, he can challenge the order of the Home Secretary in the High Court within the next 14 days. The CBI had registered a case against Nirav Modi and his maternal uncle Mehul Choksi on 31 January 2018. Before that he escaped from India on 1 January 2018. The trial court first issued a non-bailable warrant against him.

Arrested from metro station

In June 2018, a red corner notice was issued by Interpol. In March 2019, the UK police arrested him from the Metro Bank branch. According to Mint’s report, he was arrested from a metro station. His arrest was made following an order from the London Court of Appeal on the ED’s appeal. This arrest was related to money laundering. On the arrest from the bank, London officials had said at that time that he had reached to open a new account of Metro Bank. According to the PTI report, a clerk had informed Scotland Yard when he reached the bank.

Modi will be kept in 12 Arthur Road jail

The first charge sheet in this entire case was filed on 14 May 2018 and a total of 25 people were accused. The second charge sheet in the case was filed on 20 December 2019. 30 accused were included in this. It is believed that when Nirav Modi is brought to India, he will be kept in 12 Arthur Road Jail in Mumbai.
