Prisoners will get employment
The Punjab government has approved the proposal to open 12 retail outlet centers of the country’s largest oil marketing company Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) on the lands of Punjab Jail Development Board (PPDB). While presiding over the first meeting of the newly formed PPDB, Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh was informed by the officials that this project will provide work to 400 inmates who are doing good behavior in the jail.
He said, with the opening of new retail outlets on the land of the jail, the government will also get a revenue of 40 lakh rupees every month. Praveen Sinha, member secretary of the board and additional DGP of the jail, told the Chief Minister that work will be given to inmates who behave well and women prisoners will be given priority in this.
12 petrol pumps will open
In Punjab, 12 petrol pumps will open on the jail land. This petrol pump will be opened by Indian Oil. 400 inmates who have good conduct in the jail will get work. In this, priority will be given to women prisoners. Also, the government will also get a revenue of 40 lakh rupees every month.
Ujala Punjab brand approved
Giving this information in the state government’s release, it has been said that on this occasion, the Chief Minister also approved the brand name ‘Ujala Punjab’ for all the products prepared by the prison inmates. On this occasion, the Board also approved taking all the factories located in the prison premises under its jurisdiction.
The activities currently being carried out in jails of Punjab are run under PPP pattern, while commercial activities are being conducted in the open jail at Nabha.
Soap and Sanitizer Production
Sinha told the Chief Minister that under the board, sheets, towels, furniture, stationery, soap and sanitizers will be produced in the factories located in the jail. Sinha suggested to the Chief Minister that these products would be purchased by various government departments under the existing provisions.
