The foundation of Reliance was laid by Mukesh Ambani’s father Dhirubhai Ambani. After completing his studies in Chemical Engineering, Mukesh Ambani started Reliance Petroleum Chemicals in 1981 with his father Dhirubhai Ambani. In 1985, the name of the company was changed from Reliance Textile Industries Limited to Reliance Industries Limited.
After Dhirubhai’s death on 6 July 2002, Mukesh Ambani took over the command of Reliance Industries. Apart from petroleum, Mukesh Ambani ventured into the telecom sector and established Reliance Communications Limited. However, after the split between the two brothers, Reliance Infocomm moved to his younger brother Anil Ambani.
75,000 crore to 15 lakh crore journey
Mukesh Ambani has reached this stage today with his hard work and success mantra given by his father. Dhirubhai Ambani gave the success mantra to his son that think big, think fast and think ahead… because no one has a monopoly on ideas. Mukesh Ambani brought his father’s success mantra to life and with his understanding, he made Reliance Industries the largest company in the country. The market cap of RIL in 2002 was 75 thousand crores, which today, under the leadership of Ambani, the market cap of the company has crossed Rs 15 lakh crores.
Under his leadership, Mukesh Ambani ventured into retail, life sciences, logistics, telecom and infrastructure besides petroleum. Reliance Retail is the largest retail business company in India. It includes many brands like Reliance Fresh, Reliance Footprint, Reliance Time Out, Reliance Digital, Reliance Wellness, Reliance Trends, Reliance Autozone, Reliance Super, Reliance Mart, Reliance iStore, Reliance Home Kitchen, Reliance Market and Reliance Jewelery.
Reliance Jio created panic in telecom
In 2016, following the success mantra given by his father, Mukesh Ambani created a panic by launching the telecom sector Reliance Jio Infocomm. At the time when the telecom companies had a focus on 2G and 3G in the country, they launched 4G and discharged everyone from the market. Today Reliance Jio has become the largest telecom company in the country.
Made the company debt-free
He had targeted to make Reliance Industries date-free by March 2021 and Ambani did it well ahead of time. From oil to telecom, the company, which trades in several sectors, raised Rs 1.69 lakh crore through foreign investors and rights issue. Ambani raised these funds at a time when the country was struggling with the Corona epidemic last year.
RIL raised Rs 1.15 lakh crore by selling less than a quarter stake in Jio Platforms and Rs 52,124.20 crore through rights issue. The company raised this money in just 58 days.
