In view of the increasing cases of Corona, the Goa government on Friday canceled the Shigmo Festival Parade to be held in the first week of April. Shigmo is the largest spring festival in Goa. Chief Minister Pramod Sawant told the Goa Legislative Assembly that the decision to cancel the Shigmo Festival Parade in the state has been taken to avoid rising cases of COVID-19 infection.
MGP MLA Sudin Dhavalikar raised the issue on the floor of the House and wanted to know whether the state government is holding the Shigmo Festival Parade this time. The state tourism department hosts the Shigmo Parade on the lines of the Carnival festival in April. The Shigmo Parade was scheduled to be held in the three cities in the first week of April.
However, the traditional Shigmo festival will continue in the temples. Also, Chief Minister Sawant said that weddings and other celebrations should be held with limited attendance. Coronavirus cases are increasing continuously in the country. Shocking figures are coming out in the days to come. The way corona cases are coming up every day, it seems that despite the vaccination program, the condition of second wave can be worse than the first wave.
