Bihar Power New Electricity Tariff: At present, everyone is watching the decision of the state government. The government will take a decision on the subsidy by 31 March as the new tariff order is to come into force from 1 April.
Electricity rates can be expensive in Bihar
Between the price rise of petrol-diesel, LPG cylinders and edible oils, the common people in Bihar have received another setback. This time electricity has given the ‘current’ of inflation. Actually, Bihar Electricity Regulatory Commission (BERC) has decided to increase the electricity rates. According to HT’s report, it has been decided to increase electricity rates by 0.63 per cent on an average. New tariff notification is yet to be notified by the electricity department.
However, the existing charges prescribed for all categories of electricity consumers have not been changed. Along with this, the commission has also accepted the proposal of 3 percent discount for prepaid smart meter consumers. According to reports, the tariff slab has been changed.
Earlier there were 4 tariff slabs, now there will be 3
Till now there are 4 tariff slabs for domestic consumers, but BERC has reduced the number of tariff slabs from 4 to 3 for domestic consumers. Slabs up to 200 units will remain the same, but 201 to 300 units and 301 or above slabs have been merged. That is, now this slab has been made of ‘201 and above units’.
If you want to save electricity bill, then 3 things have to be kept in mind
That is, if you have to save electricity bill, then you have to take care that you do not spend more than 200 units in a month. According to BERC, if the electricity bill is not paid within the stipulated time limit, the consumer will have to pay 1.5 percent late payment surcharge per month.
That is, if you want to save on the bill, then you have to pay the bill on time. Along with this, one more thing has to be noted that as soon as the prepaid meter facility is implemented in your area, it will be better to get it installed. Because you will be able to take advantage of 3 percent discount in it.
Now watch the decision of the state government!
The new order of electricity tariff has just been passed on zero-subsidy basis. This means that the tariff rate may also come down after the Bihar government announces the subsidy. Explain that zero-subsidy tariff was introduced from the financial year 2016-17. At present, everyone is watching the decision of the state government. The government will take a decision on the subsidy by 31 March as the new tariff order is to come into force from 1 April.
9.22 percent increase was proposed
Explain that the two power distribution companies in the state are North Bihar Power Distribution Company Limited (NBPDCL) and South Bihar Power Distribution Company Limited (SBPDCL). BERC Chairman Shishir Sinha says that both companies had proposed an increase of about 9.22 per cent in electricity charge, but the Commission did not agree to this.
