Dabur and Marico, two of the country’s biggest FMCG companies, have come face to face in the honey packing dispute. Domestic FMCG major Dabur has initiated contempt proceedings in the Delhi High Court against Marico and its director for not complying with the court’s order. Marico has failed to comply with a decision to replace its honey packaging.
Dabur has accused Marico of stealing honey bottles, trade dress, labor and packaging. Marico had assured to change this, but the company has not changed the packaging yet. The next hearing of the case will be on July 14, 2021.
what is the matter
Marico had also entered the honey market under the name ‘Saffola Honey’, but now Dabur has filed a case in Delhi High Court. Dabur accused Marico of stealing honey bottles, trade dress, labor and packaging . Dabur says Marico has copied the packaging.
Dabur says that it has been selling honey under the name Dabur Honey since 1965. It adopted the existing packaging and bottle size of the product in 2013. During this, the company has continued with the trade dress and other key features as before.
Marico denies the claims
According to the Times of India report, Marico’s spokesperson has denied the claims. This is yet another shoddy attempt on the part of the competition to stop the successful launch of Saffola Honey. “Earlier Dabur has filed baseless cases with ASCI and other platforms and Marico’s stand has been confirmed on all platforms,” the spokesperson said.
