Family pension under ESIC

The central government has announced several more measures to help families who have lost an earning member due to COVID-19. Under these measures, the families of those who lost their lives due to COVID will be given pension along with enhanced and generous insurance compensation. The benefit of ESIC is available to those employees whose monthly income is Rs 21,000 or less. However, in case of Divyangjan, the income limit is Rs 25,000.

The government said that the benefits of the Employees’ State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) pension scheme under employment-related death cases should now be extended to those people in order to enable the families of such victims to lead a life of dignity and maintain a better standard of living. Change in the definition of death

ESIC has made a provision of a new special benefit scheme, increasing the scope of social security of its insured. While changing the definition of death for IP’s, ESIC has also included death from COVID-19 in these definitions. Death at home due to COVID will also be included in this.

Family Pension under ESIC

In order to help these families to live life with dignity and maintain their standard of living, the benefit of ESIC pension scheme for employment related death cases is now being extended even to those who have died due to COVID. .

The dependent family members of these persons would be entitled to the benefit of pension equal to 90 per cent of the average daily wage or remuneration of the employee or worker concerned as per the existing norms. This benefit will be deemed to be applicable from 24th March 2020 and for all such cases this facility will be available till 24th March 2022.
