Insurance companies are now investigating whether the patient has not been admitted to hospital unnecessarily.
In the Corona period, not only claims have increased, but the amount of average claim has also increased.
At this time there is an atmosphere of chaos due to Corona. The beds of hospitals are full and patients are not able to get oxygen. Even medicine is lacking. In these circumstances, the health insurance claim has also increased significantly. Insurance companies have also expedited the process but many cases are also being rejected. Or you can say that you won’t get that much claim.
In an interview given to Mint, Dr. S Prakash, Managing Director of Star Health Insurance said that the claim has increased significantly. People are getting hospitalized in a hurry. If someone has medical insurance, then he is getting admitted in the hospital. He does not care whether he needs to be recruited or not. Due to this, even the needy are not getting beds. Dr. Prakash says that not only the claim cases have increased in the Corona period, but the amount of average claim has also increased.
Avoid unnecessary hospitalization
He says that the business of insurance companies is regulated while in healthcare it is not regulated. In such a situation, the hospital and the patient should be ready for tough questions. As claims are increasing, it has become necessary for insurance companies to know and investigate whether the hospital is charging higher bills or whether such a patient has been admitted. If someone is a partial victim of Corona, then home quarantine is necessary for that. Recruitment is being investigated in these cases. However, the company does not refuse to give a claim.
No discrimination based on vaccine status
Regarding the cases of vaccination, he said that it is very unlikely that one gets corona despite the first and second doses of the vaccine. However, this information is not important for insurance companies. Insurance companies do not make a claim settlement on the basis of whether the vaccine is in place or not.
Health insurance has gained momentum again
He said that the market of health insurance has increased during the Corona period. In January and early February this year, we saw a decline in business, but it has increased again. Health insurance has registered a growth of nearly 40 percent over the last year. He said that people are still buying more General Health Insurance instead of Corona Special Insurance. Apart from this, people are buying insurance for their employees, meds, drivers, and for special diseases.
