In this difficult time, where many people came forward to help each other, there are others who are taking advantage of this time. One such case has come to light, in which 1.2 lakh were looted from the patient’s family in the name of the ambulance service.
According to media reports, an ambulance in Gurugram took 1 lakh 20 thousand rupees in lieu of taking the patient to Ludhiana. This happened when the Haryana government has already fixed the ambulance rates. According to the Navbharat Times report, the victim Satinder Kaur was corona positive. His oxygen level continued to fall while being in home isolation. The family brought him to the hospital but he did not find a bed in the hospital anywhere in Gurugram. They went to all the COVID Hospitals in Gurugram but did not get a bed.
Number found on social media
After much effort, he was informed that one of the beds in Ludhiana was empty. He got a bed reserved for the patient over the phone. Satinder’s oxygen level had reached 40. They started arranging an ambulance to reach Ludhiana, but no ambulance was found anywhere. No one agreed to go to Ludhiana. After all, he spoke on a number found on social media. The ambulance man was ready to go to Ludhiana but he demanded Rs 1.20 lakh in return.
95,000 deposited first, 25000 for patient drop
The family members of Satinder asked him to reduce the charge but he was not ready. Seeing Satinder’s condition, they agreed. He received an ambulance from Cardiacare Ambulance Private Limited. Before sending the ambulance, 95 thousand rupees were deposited from him, which he did on Google. After that, after reaching Ludhiana, he gave 25000 rupees in cash.
No calls were received on any number of administration

The family members allege that they got a call on the administrative numbers to complain about the ambulance. Also called the helpline numbers issued by the government but no response was received. According to the family members of Satinder, the distance of the hospital from Gurugram to Ludhiana was 350 km. 1 lakh 20 thousand rupees was enough for such a distance, but due to the lack of any help from the administration and Satinder’s poor health, he had to obey the driver.
What does fixed rate mean?
The district administration of Gurugram on Thursday issued an order for the maximum fare for ambulances and other vehicles carrying patients and dead bodies in Gurugram. Under this, Rs 500 per km will be charged for distances up to 3 km. After that it will be 25 rupees per km. At the same time, 750 rupees will be charged for a distance of 3 km to 7 km and thereafter for 25 rupees per km. For more than 7 km, Rs 1,000 will be charged and thereafter it will be Rs 25 per km.
