On this day long queues of customers used to walk in the streets of the main jewelery and bullion market of Old Delhi, Kucha Mahajani. Police had to be arranged. But this year this market is in silence.
Gold on Bullion Market
Today is the festival of Akshaya Tritiya. Today is considered the most auspicious day to buy gold. But the corona and the lockdown caused by it has disappointed businessmen greatly. This is considered to be the biggest earning opportunity for jewelers. But speaking of Delhi only, the lockdown on Akshaya Tritiya has hit the jewelery market of the national capital by nearly five thousand crores.
This is the second consecutive year when Akshaya Tritiya, one of the best selling few days, is passing through the lockdown. On this day long queues of customers used to walk in the streets of the main jewelery and bullion market of Old Delhi, Kucha Mahajani. Police had to be arranged. But this year this market is in silence. Similar condition is of Dariba Kalan, another market of Chandni Chowk. There are jewelery shops in Karol Bagh, South X, Laxmi Nagar, Uttam Nagar and Connaught Place which are closed along with other shops in Lockdown.
Cumin is in the camel’s mouth online
According to market experts, if the markets were open and there was no corona epidemic, then on the day of Akshaya Tritiya alone, the jewelers of Delhi would have done business of five thousand crore rupees. There have been some online bookings, but it is similar to cumin in the camel’s mouth. Things can also change between the second booking to reach the point of sale.
Understand the real thing from experts
Yogesh Singhal, chairman of Kucha Mahajani’s business organization, The Bullion and Jewelers Association, said that if there was no lockdown, there would have been some business in this Corona period. But, the dreaded situation in Delhi and health care has crumbled. In it, only the traders do not want to open shops. He says that this day is very special in terms of sales. Because weddings are also very much on this day.
What do you know
Due to the time of passion, the demand for jewelery is high. Tariba Gupta, president of the Dariba Jewelers Association, says that this year sales are negligible, as the markets are not open due to the lockdown. It is not that some demands did not come. But we are not in favor of breaking the government guidelines by opening shops. Therefore, it has not been sold. Some jewelers have made online booking in some cases. But it cannot be called a sale. Because things can change at the time of sale.
