American retail giant Walmart will open 20 new wholesale cash and carry stores in India in the next three years. Two stores will be opened this year. 8 stores will be launched next year and 10 in the third year. There are plans to open 50 stores in the next 5 to 7 years. This was informed by Krish Iyer, President, and CEO of Walmart India.
Plan to Open 15 Stores in UP
The company has signed an MoU with the state government to open 15 stores in UP in the next few years. These stalls will be opened in Kanpur, Moradabad, Varanasi, Gorakhpur, Saharanpur, Lucknow and Ghaziabad. Three locations have been decided and 9 are under consideration. Walmart currently operates 21 stores in 9 states under the Best Price brand.
Second Fulfillment Center Started in Lucknow
Walmart India on Monday launched Fulfillment Center in Lucknow. This is the second center in the country. The first center opened in Mumbai last year. Through the Fulfillment Center, the company deals with online business-to-business customers. Walmart India is doing about 50% of the business through B-to-B e-commerce, call centers, and other out-of-store mediums. The remaining 50% is run through the business store.
